Community Sauna Hot Spot
The neighborhood community on Nesodden peninsula, a short ferry ride from the Norwegian capital Oslo, wanted to expand their already growing collection of communal saunas. The brief was clear — eco-friendly, social, and with a breathtaking view over the fjord. Oslo Works delivered exactly that.
Hot Spot sits right at the water's edge, designed around the idea that a sauna should bring people together as much as it offers a moment of quiet. It's unpretentious and well thought through, and it genuinely belongs where it stands.
Getting the shots I wanted meant waiting for the right conditions — which in this case meant heading out on some of the coldest days of the year to catch the sauna in proper winter snow. Worth it for the images, less worth it for my fingers. There's something about photographing a warm, steaming sauna when it's well below zero outside that makes every frame feel earned.
The project has since gained well-deserved international recognition — the pictures featured in The Observer, covered by Dezeen, and included in Gestalten's Ridiculously Good Looking Saunas , a book dedicated to this kind of thoughtful, place-driven architecture.
